Barrington Court is a Tudor manor house begun in the 1530s and completed in the late 1550s, with a vernacular 17th-century stable court, and was the first house acquired by the National Trust, in 1907. The gardens at Barrington Court were laid out in the 1920's by the Lyle family (of Tate and Lyle sugar fame) to a design influenced by Gertrude Jekyll - something which is especially evident in the beautiful Lily Garden. This Tudor Manor house is open March to October, daily except Wednesdays, and unlike many NT properties Barrington Court is very child-friendly being empty inside and almost devoid of furniture and furnishings. Barrington Court and the village of Barrington are situated around 4 miles north east of Ilminster, 11 miles south east of the county town of Taunton. Barrington Court is located only 8 miles from another quite wonderful National Trust property, Montacute House. Barrington Court, Barrington, Ilminster, Somerset, Postcode TA19 0NQ
